PCI Data Security Standards - Annual Required Self Assessment
As of January 2005, the Payment Card Industry or PCI issued a new date security standard that would be common to all payment cards by VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, Discover and JCB. The PCI Data Security Standard consists of 12 requirements that all merchants must follow. This standard is intended for the following reasons:
- To safeguard confidential customer information by requiring that every merchant build and maintain a secure network (if applicable)
- Protect cardholder data physically and electronically
- Maintain a vulnerability management program
- Implement strong access control measures to confidential information to those with a business need-to-know
As of January 1, 2008, our merchant customers are required to complete a self-assessment questionnaire on an annual basis and return the Attestation of Compliance to the Treasury Management Department at River Valley Bank. This serves as proof that our merchant customers have completed the self-assessment questionnaire, and ensures that they are in compliance with all 12 PCI Data Security Standards requirements and to identify any deficiencies.
