Vishing Scam May 28, 2010
People in our market areas are receiving pre-recorded calls telling them their RVB debit card has been blocked. The victim is instructed to call the bank at a phone number they are given that is not a bank number. One customer has fallen for the scam and has given out card information to the scammers. The originating numbers that show up on the caller ID of call recipients are: (562) 864-2524 and (972) 556-9660.
This is a typical vishing attack in that target area codes are mass dialed by several scammers using automated equipment. Attacks like this usually start in the middle of a holiday weekend, when no one at the bank can be reached to confirm or deny the card blocking alert.
Please be aware that River Valley Bank is not blocking debit cards at this time.
